Before you book.
Everything you should know before hiring a wedding officiant or booking ceremony environment design — insurance, staffing, contract terms, the ceremony process, and what to expect on the day.
Credentials and coverage.
Are you legally authorized to perform marriages in Florida?
Yes. Ordained through American Marriage Ministries and Universal Life Church, and a Florida Commissioned Notary Public. All three are legally recognized for solemnizing marriages in Florida under Florida Statute 741.07.
Do you carry event liability insurance?
Yes. Dovetail Edition carries event liability insurance and can provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to any venue that requires one. Share your venue's insurance requirements at inquiry and the COI will be provided before the event.
Who files the signed marriage license, and by when?
The officiant signs the marriage license at the close of the ceremony and returns it to the issuing county clerk within the legally required window (10 days in Florida). Marriage license signing and return is included in every ceremony tier that provides an officiant on the day.
Who shows up and when.
How many weddings do you book on the same day?
When officiating, one ceremony per day. Signature weddings that require a day-before rehearsal walkthrough are scheduled with no conflicts. If a ceremony and a separate Setting installation happen at different locations on the same day, the Setting team handles the install independently while the officiant focuses entirely on the ceremony.
Who is physically on-site for setup, ceremony, and breakdown?
The officiant — Larry Bell — is present for every ceremony he officiates. For ceremonies that include The Setting, a dedicated setup team handles delivery, installation, and removal. The officiant does not split attention between setup work and ceremony delivery.
What time do you arrive, and when is setup complete?
Arrival time is agreed during planning and confirmed in the contract. For ceremonies with The Setting, the setup team arrives early enough to complete installation before guests arrive. The officiant arrives at the agreed call time — typically 30 to 60 minutes before the ceremony. Breakdown happens after the event, within the same day.
Writing, revisions, and the day.
When will we receive the ceremony draft, and how many revisions are included?
The first draft arrives within ten business days of booking, or within 72 hours with the expedited add-on ($150). Revision rounds vary by tier: Signature includes unlimited revisions, Ceremony Writing Only includes two, Microwedding and Elopement each include one (Microwedding is upgraded to two when bundled with a Setting package). Most couples use one round.
Can we approve the full ceremony script before the wedding day?
Yes — this is standard, not optional. The couple reads and approves every word before the day. The draft is shared, feedback is given, revisions happen, and the final version is locked only after the couple signs off. Nothing is heard for the first time at the altar.
Can you accommodate religious, interfaith, cultural, or family-specific elements?
Yes. Religious, nonreligious, interfaith, cultural, and family-specific elements are all part of the planning conversation. Unity ceremonies, readings in other languages, family blessings, cultural rituals, and blended-faith structures are written in as naturally as any other element. The ceremony is shaped around what the couple wants — not around a default template.
Do we have to write our own vows?
No. Vows can be written by you, written for you, or built collaboratively. Many couples choose a structured repeat-after-me exchange for the ceremony and keep personal letters private. All of that is decided in the planning conversation.
Do you serve LGBTQ+ couples?
Yes. Dovetail Edition is an LGBTQ+ affirming service. Same-sex couples, nonbinary partners, and queer couples receive the same service, the same process, the same pricing, and the same care as any other couple. Pronouns and naming conventions are confirmed during the planning conversation and used consistently throughout the ceremony.
The Setting, venue coordination, and weather.
Can I book The Setting without the officiant?
Yes. The Setting is available as a standalone service. The Minimalist collection is $1,200 and the Modern Romantic collection is $1,800. Both include design consultation, delivery, professional installation, and complete removal within the I-4 corridor. No officiant services are required. If you later decide to add ceremony officiation, the bundle saves $200 compared to booking each service separately.
What exactly is included in the Setting package, item by item?
Every Setting collection includes: arch structure, seating for the ceremony guest count, aisle treatment, styled accents, and the full labor of delivery, setup, and teardown. A site visit or detailed photo exchange confirms placement and load-in logistics before the event. The exact items depend on the collection (Minimalist or Modern Romantic) and the guest count — an itemized scope is provided in the contract before any payment is collected.
Have you worked at my venue before?
Dovetail Edition has worked at venues throughout the I-4 corridor. If your venue is new to us, a site visit or detailed photo exchange is conducted before the event to confirm layout, load-in logistics, and any venue-specific rules (candle restrictions, installation methods, load-in windows, parking).
Will you coordinate directly with our planner, photographer, or venue?
Yes. The officiant coordinates directly with your planner, photographer, and venue contact. For Signature weddings, this includes day-of processional timing and vendor liaison. You do not need to relay information between vendors.
What is the wind, rain, or heat backup plan for outdoor ceremonies?
Weather contingencies are addressed during the planning conversation — not improvised on the day. This includes: where the ceremony moves if weather requires it, what the setup looks like in the backup location, who makes the call, and at what point. Florida afternoon storms in summer are predictable, and the plan accounts for them.
Deposit, balance, and terms.
What deposit is required, and when is the balance due?
A 50% retainer is due at booking to hold the date. The remaining balance is due 14 days before the ceremony. Contracts and invoices are handled through HoneyBook.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Date changes with 30 or more days' notice transfer the deposit to the new date at no charge, subject to availability. Full cancellation, postponement, and rescheduling terms are detailed in the service agreement, which is provided before any payment is collected.
Are there any extra fees not shown in the package price?
Travel within the I-4 corridor service area is included in all packages. If your venue is outside that area, a travel fee is quoted at inquiry before you book — no surprises. There are no hidden fees for stairs, parking, load-in, or standard venue logistics. The price on the contract is the price you pay.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment is handled through HoneyBook, which accepts credit card, debit card, and bank transfer (ACH).
