Service 01 — The Ceremony

The words,
written from scratch.

Every ceremony begins with a planning conversation. What comes out of it is a ceremony written for these two people, this week, this room. Not a script edited with your names on top.

— Five tiers

Signature, microwedding, elopement, ceremony writing, vow renewal.

All five are written, not assembled. Pricing is a starting point — scope is confirmed after the planning conversation.

— Process

How it works.

01 · The conversation

By video or phone.

Covers the date, location, guest count, how you met, what made this the right person, what you want guests to feel, cultural or family elements to include or avoid. Length, vows, readings, rituals.

02 · The draft

Delivered within ten business days.

A first draft arrives within ten business days of booking, or within 72 hours with the expedited add-on. Signature includes unlimited revisions. Ceremony Writing includes two. Microwedding and Elopement include one. Most couples use one.

03 · The rehearsal

A walkthrough at the location.

Included with Signature. Usually the day before. Processional, positioning, cues for music, timing for readings. Thirty to sixty minutes — enough to take the guesswork out of the day.

04 · The ceremony

Officiant present at the agreed call time.

Signature includes day-of processional, timing, and vendor liaison. Marriage license signed at the close. Signed and returned to the issuing county within the legal window.

— Booking & license

Scope, payment, signing.

Scope and deposit

Scope is confirmed at inquiry, after the planning conversation. A 50% deposit holds the date. Balance is due 14 days before the ceremony. Contract and invoice run through HoneyBook.

Ordination

Ordained through American Marriage Ministries and Universal Life Church, and a Florida Commissioned Notary Public. All three are legally recognized for solemnizing marriages in Florida.

Florida marriage license

Florida marriage licenses are purchased by the couple at any Florida county clerk office. Cost is $86.00, or $61.00 with a Florida premarital preparation course.

There is a three-day waiting period for Florida residents (waivable with the premarital course). Out-of-state couples receive the license with no waiting period.

The license must be signed on the day of the ceremony and returned to the issuing clerk within 10 days. Marriage license signing and return is included in every tier that provides an officiant on the day.

— FAQ

Common questions.

Who is this service a good fit for?

Couples hiring Dovetail Edition are hiring for judgment, presence, and taste under pressure. The ceremony is written from scratch rather than assembled from a template, and the delivery accounts for the moments that cannot be scripted (when to pause, when to lighten, when to hold silence). If what you want is the cheapest available officiant or the flashiest decor, another vendor will serve you better. If what you want is a ceremony that sounds like the two of you, this is a good fit.

Can you perform a religious ceremony?

Yes, if you want one. Faith elements, readings, blessings, and rituals from any tradition can be written in. The ceremony is shaped around what the two of you want. If you want a non-religious ceremony, that is equally straightforward.

Do we have to write our own vows?

No. Vows can be written by you, written for you, or built collaboratively. Many couples choose a structured repeat-after-me exchange for the ceremony and keep personal letters private. All of that is decided in the planning conversation.

What if we need to reschedule?

Rescheduling is handled in the contract. Date changes with 30 or more days notice transfer the deposit to the new date at no charge, subject to availability. Weather contingencies for outdoor ceremonies are addressed during the planning conversation.

Do you travel?

Within the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando, travel is included. Beyond that radius, travel is quoted at inquiry.

How far in advance should we book?

For Signature and Microwedding, six to twelve weeks is ideal. Four weeks is workable. Elopement can be written in under two weeks. The expedited add-on compresses any tier to 72 hours from booking.

What is the premarital course?

Dovetail Edition offers a Florida-approved premarital course for $49 (included in the Signature tier). Completing the course saves $25 on your Florida marriage license fee and waives the three-day waiting period, so you can use your license immediately.

Are you legally authorized to perform marriages?

Yes. Ordained through American Marriage Ministries and Universal Life Church, and a Florida Commissioned Notary Public. All three are legally recognized for solemnizing marriages in Florida.

Can we add The Setting?

Yes. When both services are booked together, the ceremony and the environment are planned in a single combined conversation and aligned for the rehearsal. Bundle pricing and pairings are on the packages page.

Do you carry event liability insurance?

Yes. Dovetail Edition carries event liability insurance and can provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to any venue that requires one. If your venue has specific insurance requirements, share them at inquiry and the COI will be provided before the event.

How many weddings do you book per day?

When officiating, one ceremony per day. Signature weddings that require a day-before rehearsal walkthrough are scheduled with no conflicts. If a ceremony and a separate Setting installation happen at different locations on the same day, the Setting team handles the install independently while the officiant focuses entirely on the ceremony.

Who is on-site for the ceremony?

The officiant — Larry Bell — is present for every ceremony he officiates. For ceremonies that include The Setting, a dedicated setup team handles delivery, installation, and removal. The officiant does not split attention between setup work and ceremony delivery.

Can you accommodate interfaith, cultural, or family-specific elements?

Yes. Religious, nonreligious, interfaith, cultural, and family-specific elements are all part of the planning conversation. Unity ceremonies, readings in other languages, family blessings, cultural rituals, and blended-faith structures are written in as naturally as any other element. The ceremony is shaped around what the couple wants — not around a default template.

Can we approve the full ceremony script before the day?

Yes. The couple reads and approves every word before the wedding day. The draft is shared, feedback is given, revisions happen, and the final version is locked only after the couple signs off. Nothing is heard for the first time at the altar.

What is the deposit and cancellation policy?

A 50% retainer is due at booking to hold the date. The remaining balance is due 14 days before the ceremony. Rescheduling with 30 or more days' notice transfers the deposit to the new date at no charge, subject to availability. Full cancellation and rescheduling terms are detailed in the service agreement, which is provided before any payment is collected.

Are there any extra fees not shown in the package price?

Travel within the I-4 corridor service area is included. If your venue is outside that area, a travel fee is quoted at inquiry before you book — no surprises. There are no hidden fees for stairs, parking, load-in, or standard venue logistics. The price on the contract is the price you pay.
