What FishHawk Ranch is.

FishHawk Ranch is a master-planned community in the Lithia area of southern Hillsborough County, about 18 miles southwest of Plant City and roughly 20 miles southeast of downtown Tampa. It is one of the larger planned communities in the Tampa Bay area, with its own network of parks, trails, clubhouses, and commercial areas spread across several distinct villages.

The community is managed by an HOA, which is relevant if you are considering any of the shared spaces for a ceremony. FishHawk is not a city — it does not have its own municipal government. It falls under unincorporated Hillsborough County for permitting, licensing, and all administrative purposes. The drive from Plant City takes about 25 minutes, heading south on CR-39 or west on SR-60 through Brandon and then south on FishHawk Boulevard.

Why it works for small ceremonies.

FishHawk Ranch was designed around common spaces — clubhouses, community pools, pocket parks, lakefront areas, trail systems. That infrastructure, originally built for residents, also happens to create natural settings for small wedding ceremonies. The landscaping is maintained, the spaces are clean and orderly, and many of the parks have water features or tree-lined areas that photograph well without any additional decor.

The most common ceremony settings I see within FishHawk:

  • Community clubhouses — FishHawk has multiple clubhouse facilities across its villages. These offer covered space, restrooms, and parking. Availability and reservation policies are managed through the HOA. If you or a family member is a resident, booking is typically straightforward. Non-residents may need a resident sponsor.
  • Lakefront parks and green spaces — several parks within FishHawk sit along retention lakes or natural ponds with maintained shorelines. These provide an open-air setting with a water backdrop. No reservation is required for small gatherings in most common areas, but confirm current rules with the HOA for organized events.
  • Private homes — the most common option and the simplest. Many homes in FishHawk have generous back yards, screened lanais, or pool decks that work perfectly for a ceremony of 2 to 30 people. No venue fee, no HOA approval needed for a private gathering, no restrictions on timing.
  • Trail and nature areas — FishHawk has an extensive trail system that winds through wooded areas and wetland buffers. These can work for elopements and very small ceremonies where the couple wants a natural setting without leaving the neighborhood.

The consistent theme across all of these: FishHawk already provides the setting. For many couples, the ceremony location is five minutes from their front door.

The marriage license.

FishHawk Ranch is in Hillsborough County. Your marriage license is handled through the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court. Both partners must appear together at a clerk office with valid ID. The fee is approximately $86, or $61 if you complete an approved premarital preparation course. The course also waives Florida's three-day waiting period for residents.

For full details on the process, satellite office locations, and ID requirements, see our Hillsborough County marriage license guide. Dovetail Edition offers a Florida Premarital Course for $49, completed online, that satisfies the state requirement.

Ceremony format and process.

Every Dovetail Edition ceremony is written from scratch for the couple. I do not use templates or generic scripts. The process begins with a planning conversation — I learn about you, your relationship, the tone you want, and any specific elements to include or avoid. I write a full ceremony draft, you review it and give feedback, and we refine it until it reads the way you want.

On the day, I arrive early to the FishHawk location, handle coordination with photographers or family if needed, deliver the ceremony, and manage the legal paperwork. The marriage license is signed on-site and returned to the county clerk. Ceremony length typically runs 8 to 15 minutes for elopements and 15 to 25 minutes for larger ceremonies.

Ceremony environment design.

FishHawk's parks and clubhouse spaces provide a clean backdrop, but some couples want more than what the space offers on its own. Dovetail Edition's ceremony environment design service handles the physical setting — ceremony arches, furniture, florals placement, backdrop elements — so the space feels intentional rather than incidental.

This is especially useful in FishHawk clubhouse spaces, which tend to be functional rather than atmospheric. A designed ceremony environment transforms a community room into something that feels like a wedding, not a meeting. The service is available as an add-on to any ceremony tier.

Pricing.

Dovetail Edition offers three ceremony tiers:

  • Elopement — $500. For two people and a small guest list. Includes planning, a ceremony written from scratch, delivery, and license handling.
  • Microwedding — $700. For ceremonies with a guest list and more formal structure. Adds rehearsal coordination and expanded ceremony format.
  • Signature — $1,400. The full ceremony experience with extended creative development, multi-draft process, and day-of coordination support.

Travel to FishHawk Ranch from Plant City is included in all tiers. Full package details are on the packages page.
