How Much Does a Wedding Officiant Cost in Tampa Bay?
What wedding officiants charge in the Tampa Bay area, what you get at each price point, and the questions worth asking before you book.
Every ceremony is written from scratch with the same care, the same process, and the same pricing — regardless of who is getting married.
Dovetail Edition is an LGBTQ+ affirming wedding officiant service. Same-sex couples, nonbinary partners, and queer couples receive the same service, the same ceremony process, the same pricing, and the same care as any other couple. There is no separate "LGBTQ+ package." There is no modified process. There is one process, and it works the same for everyone.
Couples searching for an LGBTQ+ friendly officiant in Tampa Bay are doing so because not every officiant is. Some will decline. Some will accept but use gendered language that does not fit. Some will charge more or offer a reduced service. These experiences are real and common enough that couples search specifically for affirming vendors.
This page exists so those couples can find this service and know clearly where it stands before reaching out. No ambiguity. No discovering the officiant's position after the inquiry has been sent.
The process is identical to every other Dovetail Edition ceremony:
The ceremony is written to match the couple. Pronouns are confirmed during the planning conversation and used consistently throughout. If partners use different naming conventions (one prefers "wife," one prefers "partner," one prefers "spouse"), that is reflected in the writing. If traditional gendered language does not fit, it is not used.
The ceremony is not a template where names are swapped in. It is original writing. This means there is no "default" version that needs to be modified — it is built correctly from the start. Couples who want to incorporate elements from multiple traditions may find our guide to interfaith wedding ceremonies helpful as a starting point for that conversation.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Florida since January 6, 2015, when the federal injunction in Brenner v. Scott took effect. Five months later, the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges (June 2015) made same-sex marriage legal nationwide. The marriage license process is identical for all couples:
There are no additional requirements, forms, or steps for same-sex couples. The process is the same.
Most venues in the Tampa Bay area and along the I-4 corridor are welcoming. However, some couples prefer to confirm a venue's stance before booking. If you would like help identifying affirming venues in your area, this can be discussed during the planning conversation.
The officiant coordinates with your other vendors (photographer, planner, venue coordinator) the same way for every wedding. If you have had negative experiences with vendors in the past and want to discuss any concerns, the planning conversation is the right place for that.
Same pricing as every other couple. No separate packages. No premiums.
The Setting (ceremony environment design) and Premarital Course are available as add-ons at the same rates listed on the packages page.
Dovetail Edition serves the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando: Plant City, Lakeland, Brandon, Riverview, Valrico, FishHawk Ranch, Winter Haven, Auburndale, Kissimmee, Celebration, and Davenport. Travel within this area is included in all ceremony tiers.
Extended service areas (St. Petersburg, Clearwater, downtown Tampa, and Orlando proper) are available with a travel fee discussed at inquiry.
If you are planning a wedding and want a ceremony written for the two of you — with language that fits, a process that respects who you are, and an officiant who does not need convincing — the next step is a short inquiry. Two minutes. One business day response. If you are also thinking about writing personal vows, our guide on how to write wedding vows covers the process from first draft to delivery.
